How We Work with the NDIS

HEQS Furniture is not an NDIS-registered provider, but we are an experienced supplier of furniture solutions for NDIS-funded purchases. We provide quotes and tax invoices in the correct format required for NDIS plan managers and can liaise directly with coordinators if needed.

We understand that each NDIS plan is different. Our friendly customer support team is here to help you find the right furniture to meet your goals—whether that’s improving daily living, enhancing mobility, or creating a more comfortable and functional home.

Commonly Funded Items

While funding decisions are made by the NDIA, many participants have used their NDIS budgets to purchase items that assist with:

  • Daily living and functional independence
  • Supportive bedding and mattresses
  • Recliner chairs and pressure-relief seating
  • Accessible storage and wardrobe solutions
  • White goods to support independent living

What Does the NDIS Fund?

The NDIS provides funding for reasonable and necessary services to help children with disabilities or developmental delays achieve their goals across various areas of life. This can include:

  • Assistance with daily activities
  • Transportation
  • Employment support
  • Therapeutic interventions
  • Help with household tasks
  • Assistive devices and equipment
  • Home modifications
  • Mobility aids
  • Vehicle modifications

What Doesn't the NDIS Fund?

The NDIS typically does not fund supports that are not related to your child's disability, paid for by mainstream services like health or education, part of daily living costs unrelated to disability needs, or pose a risk to your child or others.

Qualifying for NDIS Funding

To qualify for NDIS funding, you must:

  • Be under 65 years old
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Meet the NDIA's disability requirements
  • Provide sufficient evidence of your condition

The NDIA will assess your access request and supporting documentation. If approved, you can then develop an NDIS plan based on your needs.

Applying for NDIS Funding

The application process has four steps:

  • Get an access request form from the NDIA, NSW Health, or by calling 1800 800 110.
  • Answer questions about your disability and personal information.
  • Have a medical professional complete the disability section or provide a separate letter.
  • Submit the completed form and supporting documents to the NDIA.

The NDIA will notify you if your application is approved to access the NDIS.

If Your Application is Declined

If your NDIS application is declined, the NDIA can suggest alternative services you may qualify for, such as:

  • Mainstream government services (housing, education, employment, etc.)
  • Community support (sports, leisure activities, etc.)

You can also request the NDIA to reconsider their decision.

Developing Your NDIS Plan

Once approved for the NDIS, you will have a planning meeting with an NDIA representative to create your initial plan. This plan outlines the support you need to meet your immediate requirements and long-term goals.

Preparing for this meeting is important, as your first plan gives you control over how to use your individual funding.

Self-Managing or Plan-Managing Your Funds

Self-Management

With self-management, you directly pay service providers and get reimbursed by the NDIS. The benefits include more control, independence, and flexibility in choosing and paying for services.

However, self-management also has responsibilities like ensuring fund usage aligns with your plan goals, managing finances, keeping records, and participating in audits.

Plan Management

Plan management means having a provider assist you in managing the funding in your NDIS plan. The NDIS covers the cost for this manager in your plan's budget.

You can choose and change your plan manager as needed throughout your NDIS plan.
